Red Bull Air Race 2018 / 2019

The Red Bull Air Race 2019 season opened in Abu Dhabi, featuring a custom purpose-built race village including temporary structures, seated viewing platforms, and an F&B village. During the race, pilots hit speeds of 230mph while enduring forces up to 12G as they navigate a low-level slalom track marked by 82-feet-high, air-filled pylons.

JAM compiled all non-race safety documentation and developed safe work systems for multinational suppliers to fulfill local and international safety standards as requested by the client. Working closely with security and projects teams, we oversaw build / live / breakdown.

There were lots of last-minute changes due to the announcement of the Pope’s visits resulting in knock-on effects to the tight build schedule and some test flight cancellations due to noise impacts. We also faced unexpected challenges from closed air zones resulting in air traffic disruptions.

JAM was a crucial part of the successful delivery of 2 x sites 10km apart with four days of test flights, two days of shows, 24,000 spectators, and millions watching the live broadcast.
