The Pirates of the Bay
An 80m x 30m outdoor pirate-themed install consisting of 13m high pirate ship, life-size octopus, jungle gym, multi-zone play area, and beach, in conjunction with the launch of a new show on the two time Guinness world record attraction IMAGINE a sensory experience that uses light, water, fire, and aqua screens.
Joining the project at the preproduction stages, we advised on-site layout, build schedule, site infrastructure. Working with the production manager and fabrication house, we reviewed the technical drawings of the structures and checked the build’s progress before coming to the site.
On-site, JAM worked 24 hrs overseeing the build, liaison with clients, suppliers, and venue to ensure the build happened safely, efficiently, and on time. Ensuring the structures were built in line with signed-off structural calculations and technical drawings.
The pirate ship wanted to replicate a real ship as much as possible. The sails were then designed to rip in high winds instead of forcing excess loads on the main structure. All elements had to be children proof and be safe for a 3 month install period.
With multiple shows each day on the outdoor water screen, attracting thousands of spectators per show, the mall asked if they could extend the activation. JAM continued to check in on the site over the 3 month period and advise on maintenance where necessary.
